Appliances & Electronics

The Appliances and Electronics Incentive Program is offered to Pennsylvania small commercial, industrial, government and institutional customers of FirstEnergy’s Pennsylvania utilities (Met-Ed, Penelec, Penn Power and West Penn Power). The Program offers incentives to participants to install high-efficiency equipment such as ENERGY STAR® certified appliances and electronics.

Incentives available for

  • ENERGY STAR certified clothes washers and electric dryers
  • ENERGY STAR certified refrigerators and freezers
  • ENERGY STAR certified window air conditioners
  • ENERGY STAR certified heat pump and solar water heaters
  • ENERGY STAR certified office equipment
  • ENERGY STAR certified uninterruptable power supplies (UPS)
  • Pre-rinse spray nozzles

Effective Dates

To qualify for incentives through the Appliances and Electronics Incentive Program, equipment must be new and installed after June 1, 2016.

Pre‐Approval Requirements

Program participants are encouraged to seek pre-approval before purchasing their proposed equipment to ensure it meets program requirements and is eligible for incentives. If your project was completed or installed on June 1, 2016, or later and you did not obtain pre-approval, then you may apply for incentives no later than 180 days from the date of project completion (completion is defined as all equipment being installed and operable).

Limitations

Incentives available from the Appliances and Electronics Incentive Program are shown below and are limited to the total equipment cost. Only new equipment is eligible for incentives under the Appliances and Electronics Incentive Program.

ENERGY STAR REFRIGERATORS

ENERGY STAR ELECTRIC CLOTHES DRYERS

ENERGY STAR HEAT PUMP WATER HEATER

Heat Pump Water Heater Heat pump water heater installations must involve the direct retrofit of a standard resistive electric water heating system. Heat pump water heaters used in pre-heat applications or in combination with other water heating system types are not eligible for incentives through this measure. Eligible heat pump water heaters must be ENERGY STAR certified with an efficiency factor >2.0. $350 per water heater

 

ENERGY STAR SOLAR WATER HEATER

Solar Water Heater Solar water heater installations must involve the direct retrofit of a standard resistive electric water heating system. Solar water heaters must be used with a backup electric water heater with an energy factor ≥ 1.8 to be eligible. $350 per water heater
ENERGY STAR WINDOW AIR CONDITIONERS

Window Air Conditioners Eligible window air conditioners must be ENERGY STAR certified and be used only for comfort cooling applications. Units must be CEE Tier II and meet version 4.0 of the Federal standard for window air conditioners with a CEER ≥10.2. New installations and replacement projects are eligible. $10 per air conditioner

 

PRE-RINSE SPRAY NOZZLES

Pre-Rinse Spray Nozzles New pre-rinse spray nozzles must have an on/off squeeze lever, use less than 1.6 gallons per minute, and have a cleaning performance of at least 26 seconds to qualify. Only spray nozzles associated with electric water heating qualify for this measure. $35 per spray nozzle
ENERGY STAR UNINTERRUPTIBLE POWER SUPPLIES

Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS) ENERGY STAR certified UPS systems use less energy than standard efficiency systems. Only units 12kW or less are eligible for incentives under this measure. Units with capacities greater than 12kW may be eligible for incentives under the Custom Equipment program. $55 per KW of capacity

How do I apply?

Step 1 – The participant should complete and submit an Appliances and Electronics program application online and upload required documents through the application portal. The following documents are required for a pre-approval (if the project is already complete, applicants should also submit the required documentation listed in Step 3):

  • Completed Appliances and Electronics calculator spreadsheet
  • Manufacturers’ specification (cut) sheets for the proposed/installed equipment. Please highlight all relevant information, such as the equipment efficiency ratings.
  • Completed and signed W-9 tax form for the incentive payee. The W-9 form must be current and dated within the last 24 months.
  • If applicable, customers who wish to issue all or a portion of their incentive to a third party should complete a Dual Incentive Payments form.
  • Copy of utility bill to confirm account number and service address. If desired, the participant may obscure all cost and rate related information.

Step 2 – The program administrator will notify the applicant via email when the review is complete and funds have been reserved.

Step 3 – Once the project is complete, the participant should review the approved application for any changes to the project that occurred during installation and make any needed corrections. The following final documentation should be submitted to the program administrator for review:

  • Detailed, itemized invoices or proofs of purchase for the equipment installed
  • Manufacturers’ specification (cut) sheets for any additional equipment installed
  • Completed letter of attestation
  • Revised Appliances and Electronics calculator spreadsheet (this requirement is waived if no changes were made during construction).

Upon receipt and verification of all required documentation, the incentive check will be processed and mailed to the applicant or to an authorized representative, if requested on the application.
